About Us
The Center was originally formed in 1996 by merging the community MHMR services of three existing
organizations, Rio Grande State Center, San Antonio State Hospital, and the Corpus Christi State
School. This merger created Coastal Plain State Operated Community Services.
On September 1 of 1999 we became Coastal Plains Community MHMR Center(CPMHMR) as part of a
state-wide change to consolidate services under local governments.
Coastal Plains Community MHMR Center currently operates under the guidance and direction
of a nine member Board of Trustees. Each of the nine counties served by Coastal Plains is
represented by one board member. The nine counties served by Coastal Plains are Aransas,
Bee, Brooks, Duval, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, Live Oak, and San Patricio.
